Marking the 162th Birthday of Nikola Tesla
On July 10, 2018, in the Memorial Center "Nikola Tesla" Smiljan held a ceremony marking the 162th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Tesla. The program took place in two works, and the first part started at 10 o'clock with a lecture on "Ecology and Sustainable Tourism" organized in cooperation with the Memorial Center "Nikola Tesla" Smiljan and the Lika Destination Cluster. Nikola Tesla lived in harmony with nature, was concerned about the excessive use of natural resources, the inspiration for his inventions has come from natural phenomena, and his character and work represent a great tourist potential for the development of the destination. The program was opened by the leader of the Memorial Center "Nikola Tesla" Smiljan Nikolina Krpan, who briefly presented the work of the Memorial Center and described the life of Nikola Tesla. Museum Lika director, Ms. Tanja Kolak, welcomed all the presenters, and Lika Destination Manager Petra Butković presented the work of Lika Destination Cluster and its connection with the Memorial Center as well as the Stay 3 days in Lika and Lika Quality projects implemented by the cluster. The importance of the inclusion of Nikola Tesla's character and work in tourism development was highlighted by the mayor of Gospić, Karlo Starčević and discovered some of the plans for the development of the Memorial Center. As part of the presentation of the Lika Quality Project visitors could visit the exhibition booth with Lika Quality products. The lecturers were Mr. Tomislav Kovačević, director of the Plitvice Lakes National Park, Ph.D. Anita Bušljeta Tonković from the Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar, Mr. Timotej Kritovac, author of the theme park Memorial Center "Nikola Tesla" Smiljan and Mr. Zvonimir Rudomino, author of Tesla's novelties. In the second part of the program on marking the birth of Nikola Tesla in cooperation with the Likovna Likovna udruga Lika and the Community Technical School of Gospić, there were two events: "Little Tesla" and "Spider Robot Race", or occasional at the World Football Championship, "Robots play football". For the end of the evening, performances performed by the Puppet Factory Theater performed.
