Lika food on the European table
Last night, in Brussels, it was solemn and joyful, because for the first time European ministers presented and served exclusively Lika food. The event was organized on the occasion of obtaining a certificate of protection of lamb's geographic origin. This demanding job, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, was promoted and made by the Association of Breeders from Gospić.
Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Tomislav Tolušić welcomed his colleagues from EU agriculture ministers headed by EU Agriculture Commissioner Mr. Hogan on this occasion. The whole ceremony was held with plenty of lichen food prepared by several award-winning chef masters from NP Plitvice Lakes, Igor Jularić and Dario Špehar.
Beside the Certified Lika lamb's, the guests are presented with food with a regional quality mark LIKA Quality. In a pleasant and cheerful atmosphere, tastes and smells of liqueur and plum brandy were delighted by European ministers as well as Croatian MPs in the EU Parliament.
Lika is unique in its natural beauty, but also in traditional food. This preparation was presented in particular by Helena Petrović, a longtime employee of NP Plitvice Lakes together with the head of hotel and catering branch Dragan Franjkovic.
Lika Destination Cluster Manager Petra Butković presented the unique Lika destination, which is in the process of tourist branding as the destination of protected areas and gastronomic destination, to interested journalists and guests.
Plitvice Lakes Director, Tomislav Kovačević, expressed great satisfaction with the development of the Plitvice Lakes NP and cooperation with local farmers and the branded Lika of the destination. On this occasion, he emphasized that these Lika strategic projects are being downloaded from bad newspapers and in a very concrete way give people the bread in their hands. "The people of Lika have always been worthy but of Lika and people from Lika alone, and there are no strategic projects. With such projects I am convinced that we can not only stop the outflow of the population but also encourage new investors to invest in Lika, and thus motivate the return of many displaced people of Lika to return to their roots. "
