Lika destination - Fifth year of Lika Quality certificate

The destination of Lika has become a recognizable sustainable tourist destination, which is proven by its placement in the TOP 100 world sustainable destinations. The Lika Destination Cluster included Lika on this prestigious list with a unique project of development, certification and inclusion of local food in the tourist offer.

Today, a new certificate award was held in Gospić, which includes as many as 17 new producers: Obrt Medenko, Author E, SOPG Maras Milan, OPG Furlan, OPG Zorić, OPG Vunena čarolija, Obrt Danijela, Domaca radinost Slavica Čorak, Mini Lika, Cesarice, OPG Kostelac , OPG Sekula Lucija, OPG Ćaćić Božidar, Domestic craftsmanship Mirjana Vukelić, OPG Sekula Danijel, Eko Vedrine d.o.o. and Agrovelebit d.o.o., which has been included in the system for 4 years.

For an extremely sparsely populated area, such as Lika, this is a huge success and a guarantee of population survival, which was the primary goal. Namely, in 2015 LAG Lika launched a five-year project of integral management of the destination, known as INTEGRA LIKA 2020, as part of which the Lika Quality system was designed, in order to retain the population in this area. In 2017, the management of the Lika Quality system was taken over by the Lika Destination Cluster, and since then it has been successfully implementing the set goals. The results are more than visible. A total of 183 certified products protected by the Lika Quality Mark and 80 producers, mostly family farms.

The president of the Lika Destination Cluster, Mrs. Petra Kovačević, emphasized the importance of this project not only for local producers, but also for the entire destination of Lika in terms of tourism, but also in a broader economic sense, and certainly demographically. "Short supply chains are a trend in the developed world for a reason because of the smaller "footprint", i.e. the reduction of pollution created through the transportation of foodstuffs. In this context, Lika is very much in trend, which we are proud of. None of this would be possible without our hard-working producers, to whom we owe the most. That is why we will continue to work on the permanent education of all stakeholders as well as citizens."

Those present were also introduced by the president of LAG Lika, Mr. Danijel Tušak, the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Jelena Đugum, the deputy mayor of Gospić, Mrs. Kristina Prša, and the prefect of Lika-Senj County, Mr. Ernest Petry.

At the awarding of the Lika Quality certificate, the banquet was prepared by the Vocational High School from Gospić, and consisted, of course, of Lika Quality foods.
