Velebit Nature Park is the winner of the "Sunflower of rural tourism in Croatia - Sunflower Award" for 2023.
Velebit Nature Park is the proud winner of the "Sunflower of rural tourism in Croatia - Sunflower Award" for 2023, which is awarded every year by the Croatian Association for Tourism and Rural Development "Club of Village Members".
The public institution "Velebit Nature Park" was awarded the Golden Charter in the category "Active tourist facilities in rural areas". This award is another indicator of the success of the management of the protected area. In addition to the protection of natural and cultural values, which is the main activity of this institution, they successfully implement active tourism in the entire Park area every day. The most visited locations in the Park, Zavratnica Bay and Cerovac caves, are locations that record a significant increase in visitors every year. In the last two years since the opening of the new Center of Excellence, the Cerovac Caves have received 30,000 visitors, which has increased their contribution to tourism in the surrounding area, and they definitely consider it the central place of the Institution's speleotourism offer and one of the main tourist attractions in the wider region! Receiving this award, Director Mario Šaban stated:
- In addition to the Cerovac caves, the Park area abounds with attractive places for active tourism, from Zavratnica bay, Zrmanja and Krupa rivers, Tulova greda, Baške Oštarije and numerous other localities. We are proud of all of them and carefully preserve each of these localities for future generations, said Director Mario Šaban.
