The first "forest organ" in Croatia was made on Grabovača
The young, imaginative and enterprising team of the Grabovača Cave Park Public Institution realized a number of ideas several years ago, the reach of which always proved to be very attractive and ecological, and their content always attracted the special attention of visitors. Let's just remember the botanical garden, where numerous autochthonous species of wild plants have found their place. A hobbit house, a faithful replica from the popular film hit "The Lord of the Rings", was built near this small dolce, and in the leeward side there is an "insect hotel" where many residents of this part of the park spend the winter. Near the river Lika, on the edge of a wooded area, a paintball field was built. Many of these contents are unique and have been found for the first time in a protected area of Croatia.
Led by director Jelena Milković, new mini-resources are constantly being created, the properties of which aim to refresh the environment and enhance visitors' stay near the monumental Samograd cave, just one of several available geomorphological features on Grabovača. While staying in this natural and completely ecological paradise, many visitors have wondered what kind of sound is coming from a pass and a built viewpoint?!?
The beauty and greatness of creations is hidden in simple solutions
Mario Paral is an employee of Cave Park Grabovača and works as an educator-professional associate. Many ideas turned into works Mario spent with the employees of this institution, friends or volunteers. This is how the famous "forest organ" was created, an idea whose realization reflects the ingenuity woven into just a few materials, with the intention of creating something completely new. Mario shared the details of this venture with us.
- The forest organ was built in 2021, and the wind and coffee in a friend's yard are to blame for its creation. While we sat and feasted like that, a light wind blew and made a steady, soothing sound through the opening on one of the pipes. Like an organ. We immediately had the idea to "catch the winds" on Grabovača. First, a wooden viewpoint was built from where the view shoots towards the Perušić field. There is also a telescope that our visitors often use.
On all four sides of the world, we placed one pipe with a subsequently drilled hole. Passing through these openings, the winds move the "forest organ" which creates lower, one would say soothing, dignified tones. In that location, the winds are always blowing, so our organ is constantly playing. Sometimes sounds can be heard from two pipes, depending on where the winds are coming from. When some visitors want to see our organ, they are almost always somewhat disappointed. Because many of them were hoping to find a lot of equipment there, and only four metal pipes are visible. Our organ "plays" the strongest when it blows from the south because the viewpoint is facing that side of the world, explains Mario Paral.
These days, discussions have begun to replace the current pipes with new ones, with better sound and appearance, which will be a new benefit of this content whose wealth is in simplicity.
