Visit the land of caves in the heart of Lika – Grabovača Cave Park!
Not far from the very center of Perušić in Lika, there is a series of caves and pits that form a unique park in Croatia, but also the only cave park in Europe - Grabovača Cave Park. It is a magical landscape that leaves a mark in the memory of everyone who visits it and the desire to return again. It is interesting that this area is home to ¼ of the total number of protected speleological objects in Croatia - three caves are protected in the category of geomorphological nature monument. On the geographical surface of the Cave Park, we come across 29 explored speleological objects, which represent a complex of diverse and rich calcite formations, valuable speleological phenomena. Bearing in mind the importance of protecting underground wealth, only the Samograd cave, located on the eastern slopes of the Grabovača hill, is open for visits. The entire cave was formed in the Upper Cretaceous limestones along the main crack in the N-S direction. Most of the surface of the cave is covered by a thick, scaly crust, sometimes covered with debris and loam. In the cave there are two sigmoidal bridges, sigmoidal saljev, conical stalagmites and stalactites. In November 2019, the wider area of Grabovača was declared permanently protected in the category SIGNIFICANT LANDSCAPE, covering an area of 5620.72ha.
Samograd Cave is the only touristic cave in the park area, and entrance to it is only allowed with a guide. It is 750m from the parking lot and souvenir shop.
