Lika destination - The project

The Lika Destination cluster successfully implemented the project "Climate Change: Sustainable Development in Lika", with the aim of raising awareness of adaptation to climate change among current and future tourism workers and farmers in Lika. The project was co-financed by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, and implemented in cooperation with the Vocational School Gospić and the Tourist Board of the town of Otočac.

Through the project, multimedia and printed informational and educational materials were created, workshops were held for renters at the Gack Open School in Otočac and for students of the Gospić Vocational School. An official photo shoot of products with the Lika Quality label was organized to raise awareness of the importance of local products in the context of sustainable development. Also, cluster stakeholders were visited to assess their operations in relation to climate change, and partner organizations were equipped with containers for separate waste collection with QR codes that lead to project materials. As an example of good practice, Terme Sveti Martin was visited in order to provide stakeholders with concrete guidelines for sustainable cooperation between agriculture and tourism.

This project has long-term significance for the future of the Lika destination because it laid the foundations for sustainable development through adaptation to climate change. The education of tourist workers and farmers enables them to better understand the challenges that come with climate change and provides them with tools for successful business in accordance with the principles of sustainability. In addition, the project encouraged stronger cooperation between the tourism and agriculture sectors, promoting local products and sustainable practices as key elements of regional development.
