Lika destination - Destination Lika for the 3rd time on the prestigious TOP 100 Global Green Destinations list

Every year, the Green Destinations Foundation publishes the competition "Green Destinations Top 100 Stories" in which it selects the best stories about good practices from destinations around the world that are shared as inspiring examples for others, from tourism experts to travelers. By telling their stories, destination management organizations gain recognition and recognition for the solutions they have implemented in response to the challenges and issues of sustainable development they have faced. Given that the tourism sector has been facing very difficult times in recent years, the resilience and efforts of these destinations to become more responsible should be celebrated.

The destination Lika is part of the TOP 100 again this year, with the story "Together for a better future: Uniting people for the progress of the destination".

Good practice relies on an integrated approach to sustainable tourism development, which was started with the establishment of the Lika Destination Cluster in 2017. This initiative was created as a response to economic stagnation and insufficiently developed tourism, with the aim of promoting clean and untouched nature and healthy food. The cluster brought together representatives of protected natural areas and local producers, creating the "Lika Quality" brand. Over time, the Cluster has been recognized as a key driver of development, and all stakeholders in tourism, including renters, hoteliers, restaurateurs, outdoor content owners, agencies and many others, have come together to improve the destination as a whole. This approach fostered collaboration among stakeholders, enabling mutual referrals and strengthening the network. Today, more than 300 stakeholders in tourism are gathered within 15 local self-governments, and joint activities result in longer retention of tourists and strengthening of the position as a recognizable tourist destination.

Petra Kovačević, president of the Lika Destination Cluster, emphasizes that this is the success of all stakeholders in the destination who, through dedicated work on their individual offers, and at the same time joint mutual promotion, improve the positioning of the Lika destination: "The impact of our activities on changing awareness and changing established business patterns is the reason which is why this year in the TOP 100 application we decided to focus on the joint results of all stakeholders that come as a result of joint work aimed at common welfare and success comes as a result of it. We are witnessing an increasing presence of Lika in the media, intensified cooperation between different sectors, and this is only possible through joint, dedicated work with a higher goal of the joint progress of all stakeholders in the local community":

The story "Uniting people for destination progress" and the entire Top 100 list for 2024 is available on the Green Destinations website.
