A New Way to the Gastronomic offer of Lika
At the restaurant "Lička kuća", the former gastronomic stamp of Lika, the project GASTRO LIKA was presented during the period from March 24 to 26, 2017, which will mark Lika as a gastronomic destination and place it on a world map of gourmet delights. With this purpose, LAG LIKA has developed a regional quality label called LIKA QUALITY, which will mark domestic products of exceptional quality, production traceability and health care. This will protect the true producers from unfair competition. It is also news that even restaurants that have their own meals prepared from Lika Quality foods that also meet the prescribed standards will also be able to recieve the same label. The primary gastronomic offer will be based on well-known traditional dishes such as lamb on spit and lamb baked in a „peka“ with Lika potatoes, meat made from the lika cow breed called Buša, Lika cheese Škripavac and many other specialties as well as very speacial Lika slivovitz. In addition to this rich gastronomic offer, LAG LIKA has also thought of the consumers, so the mentioned dishes of traditional home-made produce were prepared in a new way, in a modern way. For this purpose Gastronomadi have been engaged, a group of culinary experts who have been working for 11 years. In that period, they have formed their own gastronomic education center, held cooking schools for amateurs as well as training for professionals, numerous workshops, seminars and the like. Behind them there are numerous projects, such as "Wine Roads in Western Srijem, Međimurje, Moslavina, Plešivica", "Preservation of Boškarin through catering", "National Gastro Icons", "Gastro Cluster of Small and Family Hotels in Croatia", and they are also the official creators of Croatian meals on Croatian Airlines airplanes. We are honored to receive them to convey knowledge and skills to chefs from the hospitality facilities of Lička kuća, Borje, Grabovac, Lika, Maki, Baške Oštarije and Degenija. Gastro icons have derived from the folk traditions and are related to established dishes or gastronomic customs that are still present in the households of these areas. The fact is that Lika is rich in traditional dishes, but also that there are few catering establishments that continuously have a wide range of gastronomic delicaciesfrom Lika. Seeing as the marketing aspect is not represented either, Lika is not recognizable as a gastronomic destination. Therefore, the project GASTRO LIKA started the process of turning Lika into a recognizable gastronomic destination, creating chain links in the market from the local farm to the table.
