Lika Destination is again listed among the 50 best examples of sustainable tourism in Europe
Lika Destination has once again been recognized as one of the 50 best sustainable tourism practices in the European Commission's SUSTAINABLE EU TOURISM – Shaping the Tourism of Tomorrow manual.
The manual highlights how the destination of Lika managed to connect tourism with local production, tradition and community. More than 60% of the area is protected, and the Lika Destination Cluster successfully combines rich natural and cultural heritage with sustainable development in its work. Through the Lika Quality system, a network of local producers was created whose authentic products - from food and drinks to handicrafts - are marketed through the tourist offer of destinations.
The president of the Cluster, Petra Kovačević, emphasized that the special value of this recognition lies in the fact that the changes were initiated in accordance with the needs of the community - through the cooperation of small producers, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts gathered in the Lika Destination Cluster. Thanks to education, promotion, connecting tourism and agriculture and the creation of a strong regional brand, the destination of Lika today stands as an example of how, even with minimal resources, but great togetherness and persistence, a destination recognized at this high level can be built.
